Definition

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, schism is defined as "a division into two groups caused by a disagreement especially in a religious body."

Examples of Schism

A schism can occur in any group, but it is most commonly associated with religious organizations. Some examples of schisms in Christianity include the Great Schism of 1054, which divided the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, and the Protestant Reformation, which led to the formation of numerous Protestant denominations.
