Former Giants Tight End Announces End of Playing Career

Waller, 30, Suffered Multiple Hamstring Injuries Throughout Career

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller announced his retirement from football on Sunday, citing persistent hamstring injuries that have plagued his career since 2020.

Waller, who played 12 games for the Giants in 2023, was limited by hamstring injuries throughout the season. He had 52 receptions for 552 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to joining the Giants, Waller spent one season with the Raiders, where he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2017 after returning from a one-year NFL suspension. However, hamstring injuries continued to hamper his performance.

The Giants acquired Waller in a trade with the Raiders last offseason, hoping to bolster their tight end position. Despite his injury history, the Giants were optimistic that Waller could contribute to the team's success.

Waller expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play with the Giants and acknowledged the support he received from the team and fans during his time there.

The Giants will now look for other options at tight end, with veteran Tanner Hudson and rookie Daniel Bellinger among the potential candidates to step into a larger role.
